The Entrepreneurs Guide to Building Your Tribe for branding and small business

Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe!

I don't know who said this, but it is brilliant. And I totally stole it. It’s so relate-able, isn’t it? Not just professionally but to our personal lives too.

Mastermind. Clique. Peeps. Tribe. They all mean the same.

Tribe - (n): like-minded individuals that congregate to from your closest inner circle that gives you support, good criticism to help you better yourself, are not out to bring you down, genuinely care about you and your business, etc.

Ok, so I totally made up that definition. But in my defense, the dictionary version just wasn't as cool. And let's face it, this totally makes more sense. Because when I look at my inner circle of friends and professional acquaintances, that is what I see + feel.

In the small biz/entrepreneur life, we strive to find those other business owners that have the same philosophy + beliefs as us. Usually, we find them in groups called 'masterminds', but that sounds like work + how boring is that term. Tribe sounds so much more edgy and glamorous. And in the friendship world, those groups are labeled ‘cliques’ {or in TSwift’s world #girlgang}. I don't know about you, but that makes me think of Mean Girls like I’m being judged all the time. Tribe just sounds more natural + friendlier.

Tribes hold so much value in your life + you can find your soulmates within them. Have you ever noticed that hanging out with certain people can either be toxic or rewarding? And you find that you will start to shy away from those that are toxic + negative, to really cherish the peeps that are positive + encouraging {unless you are like Ronii + think you can fix everyone. Occupational hazard for sure}. Not saying to drop the toxic peeps out all together, because sometimes that can be a good reminder of what to look for in clients or business associates. But when you have that positive vibe with someone you start the attraction + form a tribe.

Owning your own business is hard work + takes lots of dedication and sleepless nights. Wouldn't it be great to have a group of people that can relate to you + you to them? I don't know about you, but I find that I migrate towards individuals who think like me, are in a similar place in life, that I associate with on a daily basis and vibe with. "HEY GORGEOUS! They are your tribe." Yeah, that is me, screaming at you because I know that lightbulb just clicked on above your head. You looked for it didn't you? Because you see what I mean. That is why I have come up with a few tips on finding the right tribe {or recognizing your own tribe}.

Your tribe should be...

  • Encouraging, not discouraging or tear you down.
  • Provide positive criticism, because let's face it, we all need it + can learn from it.
  • Like minded peeps, but aren't afraid to voice their opinions to help everyone better themselves.
  • Will day drink with you when you need it.
  • Doesn’t sugar coat telling you like it is just to keep from hurting your feelings.
  • Is open-minded to all your crazy ideas.
  • Is open to your positive criticism {this can’t all be one-sided to help you}.
  • Will be there for you in times of champagne celebrations + champagne failures.
  • Found at the {virtual} office, coffee shops, the gym, Facebook groups, Twitter {not bars, that could be a hot mess. I know from experience}.

I am not saying that your tribe is always going to be sunshine + roses. You will disagree + maybe not think totally on the same page all the time. And hey… THAT'S OK... how boring would that be to always have your peeps agreeing with you and thinking everything is a brilliant idea?
