What does freedom mean to you?

This is a word that has popped up a lot in my conversations the last 2 weeks. It started with a conversation I had with a friend/colleague when she asked me about why I owned a business. My very first, no hesitation, gut reaction was the freedom. It wasn't about the money or the success or the notariety. Although all those things are great. It is about the freedom for me. Freedom can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It can mean freedom to do with your time what you want. Freedom to make the decisions you want to make. Freedom to create the life you want. Financial freedom to do all the things you want to door have. But regardless of your definition, it all sets you free. (Picture big, dramatic soliloquy about 'the truth will set you free' in Scarlett O'Hara voice.)

Later in the week, another friend/colleague and I were having dinner and he casually mentioned that he wanted an assistant so that he had some freedom.

There's that word again.

Freedom.

Yes. We are all busy. Yes. We all have responsibilities. Yes.  We sometimes just have to do what we are told to.

But don't you want your freedom to do what YOU want?

People fight for our freedom everyday and I know that we all appreciate every single one of those people. But it is up to us to take that freedom and do something with it.

For me, when I answered that question the first time, my meaning was about the freedom of my time to do the things I want to do, which goes hand in hand with the freedom to pay for all those things. And that all gives me the freedom to create the life I want to live.

How can you structure your business, career, life to achieve the freedom YOU want?

I'm going to start by freeing up my time and delegating 'tasks' out to others who will probably do it better than me anyway (back to the clarity thing again). That will allow me to have the freedom to be more creative with my work, which creates more financial freedom, which creates the life I want to live.

Tell me, what does freedom mean to you? What do you want from it? Leave a comment below and let me know what you want to do with your freedom. Then tell all your friends how cool you think this is and share with everyone.

Kthanksbye,
